Terry, the pleasures of hand planing have now been realised. It all started with being able to sharpen the blade with a slight camber on the front edge. The next step was making the final adjustment of the blade downwards to eliminate backlash in the mechanism. Then those almost transparent shavings were produced leaving the planed surface almost silken to the touch and the grain wonderfully enhanced. On my last project a desk in European Beech I went from hand planning to applying the finish – NO SANDPAPERING!!
Thank you for enriching my woodworking experiences Bob
