A pencil gauge is the ideal tool for setting out
the first joint before you decide on its exact positioning, as
is it gives you the flexibility to rub the lines out if the position
is not correct. Once you are happy the position of the joint is
correct you can then use a cutting or marking gauge to accurately mark
out all the joints of similar dimension.
If you are marking out dovetail joints you can
use a pencil gauge to mark out the shoulder of the joint where you
will then come back and use a marking knife to cut parts of that
pencil line where a crisp shoulder is required to form the joint
leaving the remainder of the pencil line to be rubbed out. |
