The brass abutments are used in planes for holding the wooden wedge in place which secures the blade with a bed angle of 55 degrees. The abutment is held in the side of a wooden plane using a 10.5mm/7mm stepped hole and the round brass nut glued in position using a commercial thread lock product. The small  size is optimised for a  plane body of between 38mm - 48mm  high.  The large size abutment is suited to plane body of between 48mm - 58mm high.
