RECOMMENDED HAND GRIP FOR JACK PLANE

The Jack plane is held in a more traditional method as show in the photo. When using this plane to take off a lot of wood a good firm grip of the plane is required.
This is another way of holding the Jack plane where you are doing a more controlled cut say squaring the edge of a board.
Please Note: The above pictures are only recommended ways of holding this style of plane. You may have your own way of doing it which is just as good. The way that gives you the best results is the best way.
